Write For Three!

Want to write something but can't seem to start? I feel you. Here's something that usually works for me:

  1. Open a blank document. Or get out a journal or sheet of paper and pen, if you want to write by hand. Either way is great!

  2. Set a timer for 3 minutes.

  3. Put your fingers on the keys or the pen on the page and start making words. Any words. Literally any words. End up writing your name 400 times? Excellent. The only thing that matters is that you keep putting words on the page until the timer goes off. This means no looking back up the page to judge yourself, no correcting mistakes or typos - just keep moving forward.

  4. Want to keep writing after the timer goes off? Party on. Want to stick the whole thing in a file somewhere and ignore it forever? Cool. Want to go back, read it, maybe mess around with it a little and come back to it someday? Sounds fabulous. But whatever you do, and whatever ends up on the page? If you wrote for those three minutes, victory is yours!!!

Feel free to give it a try and see how your brain likes it!
