Halloween!

I kind of love when Halloween falls on a teaching day. Because yes, I am the weird professor who shows up in costume on Halloween. You would think this would be more normal in a theatre & dance department, but usually it's just me. I've traditionally alternated between two go-to costumes: Medieval Princess and Figment, the purple dragon from the Journey Into Imagination ride at Epcot Center. Yes, neither of these things is much like the other. But I contain multitudes. Whimsical multitudes. So, on-brand.
One of my favorite Halloween memories is from a Figment year a while back. The costume consists primarily of a Figment hoodie, complete with wings and horns. I had a lengthy chat with a student ranging across all sorts of topics...with big ol' dragon horns sprouting from my purple hood. And bless him, he somehow managed to take me completely seriously the whole time. I really do love my students.
Last year I changed things up a bit. I pinned plastic spoons all over my clothes and went as "a person who has enough spoons." If you are someone who knows about "spoon theory," this costume is, frankly, both brilliant and hysterical (at least my friends and I thought so). As I realized after an hour or two and some nod-and-smile reactions, however, if you don't, it's...less so. I felt a little silly for a minute. Then I remembered that I am in fact silly, so that was fine. Plus it meant I could introduce more people to the genius that is spoon theory - take a look if you aren't familiar!
What about you - do you dress up for Halloween? Favorite costume(s)?
